Baker House Animal Hospital Emergency Guidelines

Signs Requiring immediate attention:
  • Difficulty breathing

  • Pale or blue gums

  • Altered state or level of consciousness

  • Heatstroke

  • Hypothermia - below normal body

  • Seizures lasting longer than 5 minutes

  • Overt and Severe Pain

  • Distended (bloated) belly

  • Protracted vomiting, or unproductive vomiting

  • Consumed Antifreeze or other poison

  • Unable to urinate

In general the conditions listed to the left require immediate medical attention and you should proceed to your veterinarian or local emergency veterinary clinic directly.

***Injured, painful or sick pets will bite even if they are your best friend.***

Use extreme caution when approaching an injured or sick pet.

My pet ate something she should not have, what should I do?

Please call us at at 513-899-2300 so that we can help. Each case is different some requiring induction of vomiting and some NOT!

You can also contact the ASPCA's National Pet Poison Hotline at 1-888-426-4435. This number is staffed 24/7 by veterinarian-toxicologists. There may be a charge for this service.
